Ask the average person what annoys them the most about their computers. At least half of them will say Adware. Usually harmless but extremely irritating, adware is often included in the installation packages of free software and once it?s there on your computer you?ll be bombarded with banner or popup ads, browser redirects and other annoyances. While adware can be exasperating, it?s also pretty easy to detect and remove these unwelcome stowaways on your system.

If your computer is suddenly, sluggish, plagued with pop-up adds or you have suddenly experienced a change in your homepage, chances are, you have adware on your computer. Some types of this software are deemed malware, and invade your privacy. It collects information about a user, and their browsing habits, and displays advertisements on your web browser based on the information it collects on your browsing patterns.

Adware with this level of sophistication has essentially become spyware, collecting data and sharing it with advertisers. This data mining is seen as innocuous to the people whose computers have adware installed, though you?re not likely to agree if your computer happens to be affected.

Adware often comes bundled together with free software called freeware. Free software developers regard this type of software as a means of recovering development costs, to allow the user to utilize the software free of cost. The income generated by advertisements is a motivation for software developers to maintain that software free to the use. However, such advertisements tend to be rather bothersome to pc users, so one would have to determine whether using free software is worth having pop ups, adverts, and data collection, or just purchase the software they are using, which would be free of adware.

One thing, which people may not know, and sometimes confuse, is adware, and viruses. Both are different, as a virus will replicate, and adware does not, so two different programs are used to detect both. Therefore, if you have an anti virus program, this will not detect, and protect you from adware, and, an anti adware program will not detect or protect you from a virus. Thus, one must have two separate programs to detect each concern.

Adware can be identified, removed and prevented from being reinstalled with some easy to find, low cost adware scanner and removal software. There are some freely available programs for this purpose as well, but they tend not to perform as well or be updated as frequently as the commercially available alternatives. These anti adware programs are automatically updated frequently to keep your system safe from adware.

A good firewall is another line of defense against adware. The built in firewalls used by Windows and other operating systems are generally enough to protect your system, but if you want to be sure, then there are several inexpensive and high quality software firewalls available that can do even better at protecting your computer. If you?re investing in a firewall program, make it count by choosing a good quality firewall and remembering to turn it on ? no firewall, no matter how advanced it may be will do you any good if you don?t use it!

It is important to protect yourself, and your pc from intrusive adware. With such software being an annoying, privacy invading prevalence on the internet today, it is necessary to be able to detect this malware. It is essential to have an anti adware program and good firewall protecting you from intrusion when using your pc.
